Fall 2025 News

KNSA is eagerly awaiting decisions on two grant opportunities that     can provide funding to build on the three properties we own.

A CT Home Finance Authority (CHFA) application to rehabilitate the historic one-room schoolhouse on Clarks Falls Road was submitted Nov. 19.

The requirements are that the building be “decrepit and unused” and that the applicant had not received CHFA funding in ten years.  We had the property that fit the description and the “not funded” status that was required.  We had also done all the legal work to have the deed say that the building was to be used for affordable housing.  We will hear the outcome of the application in the new year.

We are also in the process of putting together a Ct. Dept. of Housing “scattered site” application with Habitat for Humanity, H.O.P.E of New London, and CHO of Southeaster Ct. to build homes on the 14 properties that the entities own.  This application is due in March.  A similar grant has been awarded in Litchfield County and the homes are being built.  We hope New London County is next in line for funding.

This activity would not be possible without the support from you, the community.  Our Fall fundraising with the Charter Oak Matching Gifts program, minigolf tournament and benefit concert was fun and rewarding,  This allows and encourages us to continue to work toward providing homes that people can afford.  Thank you.
